Tre Mitchell, 6’9 Center/Forward, West Virginia Mountaineers

Tre Mitchell is the final in-conference transfer looking to make an impact in the Big 12 in 2022-23. He’ll be making his third stop in his college career, though he’ll stay in the same league, after an underachieving season with the Texas Longhorns. He looks to return to his gritty ways by joining Bob Huggins and the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Mitchell’s production dipped in 2021-22 with the Longhorns, producing just 8.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg, and 1.3 apg across 24 games (17 starts)  while shooting 47.8 percent from the field and 32.6 percent from deep.

He proved to be a lot more effective at his first destination from 2019-21 with the UMass Minutemen, averaging 18.0 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 2.0 apg, and 1.2 bpg across 44 appearances (43 starts). Hopefully, his humbling experience in Austin has prepared him in more ways than one for the grit-and-grind style that Mountaineers typically play with.

Mitchell has also shown some versatility with his ability to knock down shots on the perimeter as a stretch forward. He’s shot 33.8 percent from behind the arc so far in his college career.

The rebuild is on in Morgantown after an underachieving season in 2021-22. With Mitchell leading the way in the frontcourt, the Mountaineers will look for better results in 2022-23.
