Fardaws Aimaq, 6’11 Center/Forward, Texas Tech Red Raiders

Fardaws Aimaq was one of the more highly sought-after transfers this offseason out of Utah Valley State coming off a stellar season. He posted 18.9 ppg, 13.6 rpg, 1.7 apg, and 1.3 bpg in 2021-22 and after hitting the transfer portal, lands with the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Big 12 over Gonzaga, Washington and Iowa heading to a new year of NCAA basketball.

Aimaq has won back-to-back WAC Defensive Player of the Year awards from 2020-22 and was the first player in school history to win WAC Defensive Player of the Year and Player of the Year (2020-21) in the Utah Valley rotation. He finished first in the conference in rebounds (435), third in the NCAA, second in the conference in blocks (40) and first in the conference in offensive rebounds (96), while utilizing his length in a variety of ways out West.

Aimaq snagged a career-high 27 double-doubles across 32 games as a member of the Wolverines rotation in the WAC. His ability to be effective in the paint was on full display as he snagged at least 20 rebounds in three games including 22 (8 offensive) against BYU back in December. He’ll have bigger things to prove in high-major competition with a move to Lubbock.

Now, he’ll look to turn things around in the Red Raiders’ frontcourt with his ability to be a presence on both ends of the floor with two years of eligibility remaining and a lot more to prove coming off testing the NBA Draft waters.
