DeJuan Clayton, 6’2 Point Guard, California Golden Bears

DeJuan Clayton is one of two transfer backcourt names joining the California Golden Bears in the PAC-12 after spending time in the MEAC and AEC from 2016-22.

Clayton looks to gamble on himself as the lead guard in the California backcourt following a short stint at Hartford in the AEC that saw him appear in just two contests in 2021-22. In his last full season of action, he posted 14.9 ppg, 5.1 apg, 3.8 rpg, and 1.6 spg across 16 appearances with the Coppin State Eagles in 2020-21 in the MEAC.

His best performance of 32 points, six assists, and five rebounds came during a victory over Delaware State back on January 4, 2021. He went 8-of-17 from the floor and 14-of-15 from the free-throw line.

He knows how to make defenders pay as a scorer and playmaker while looking to operate on all three levels. His craftiness allows him to create free throw opportunities as well. He’ll just need to prove himself on the defensive end of the floor if he hopes to stick with the Golden Bears.

While he’s been a breath of fresh air offensively, he’s yet to turn in a defensive rating below 103.9 at the NCAA basketball level. His 103.9 did come in his final season with the Coppin State Eagles, but his offensive rating of 102.9 didn’t do him much justice.
