Top-100 prospect Coen Carr is set to make a decision soon. Will Michigan State Basketball get another quality pickup in the 2023 recruiting class?

Michigan State Basketball is a great example of how momentum can quickly change in one offseason. The program annoyed fans with its lack of progress in the transfer portal to improve the roster for the upcoming season, not adding a single veteran player.

However, the Spartans‘ staff made up for it in a big way regarding next year’s recruiting class. They already had top-40 guard commit Jeremy Fears from a few months ago and have built off of it in just the past week. The first pickup was Xavier Booker, one of the biggest risers in the class, going from a four-star prospect to now a top-10 overall player in the 2023 class after a big Summer. A couple of days later was the commitment from Gehrig Normand, a top-100 wing prospect listed at 6’6 and 180 pounds.

Michigan State isn’t done either, with potentially another decision that could go in their favor coming soon.

Coen Carr is another top-100 prospect in the 2023 class and is considered to be one of the best pure athletes overall. The 6’7 forward can jump out of the gym and uses his gifts to be a plus defender, capable of guarding just about anyone his height/size or smaller on the court. He plays the same position as Normand but one is more of a shooter while the other has more versatility in how he can be used.

Carr hasn’t put out on official list of contenders for his services ahead of his commitment in a few days. As of now, the teams that he’s reportedly visited Michigan State, as well as Indiana, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt. But right now, the Spartans are the ones that seems to have the most momentum for him and if that becomes true on the 9th, they’ll have the No. 3 overall recruiting class, behind just Duke and Kentucky.

There were some frustrations from Michigan State Basketball fans about whether or not head coach Tom Izzo still “got it”. But this past seven days has proven otherwise and it could get even better with Coen Carr coming on board.
