Virginia Tech Basketball: Projected starting lineup and depth chart for 2023-24 season
Virginia Tech Basketball returns looking to compete in the ACC after an underwhelming 2022-23 season. In a year that saw the Hokies ride a 7-game losing streak from December to January, the Hokies look to be a bigger contender in the conference with a revamped look.
The Hokies will tap into the transfer portal once again with the losses of Justyn Mutts, Grant Basile, and Darius Maddox (George Mason) looming large. Mutts and Basile played a huge role in the offensive production for the Hokies this past season, but they do return their starting backcourt of Hunter Cattoor and Sean Pedulla.
Cattoor and Pedulla aren’t the only starters back with M.J. Collins back, but the Hokies will have an entirely different dynamic looking to carry them this season with their rotation. The backcourt shouldn’t struggle, but with two starting spots to fill, they’ll need to build chemistry in a hurry in the painted area to compete this season.
The Hokies will look to transfers Mekhi Long (Old Dominion) and Robbie Beran (Northwestern) to replace Basile and Mutts. They’ll also need a bigger presence on the wing to fill the void Justyn Mutts was as a playmaker on the wing on offense. Mutts led the Hokes in assists this past season with 243 assists.
Virginia Tech hopes Long and Beran’s additions will benefit them. Long is a wiry forward with a knack for rebounding the ball while Beran should give them a veteran presence in the frontcourt that’s capable of knocking down the 3-ball. Take an early look at the projected starting rotation and depth chart for the Hokies heading into 2023-24.
