Head coach Kim English takes over Providence Basketball after making his coaching debut with George Mason in the Atlantic 10. Coach English went 34-29 (.540) across two seasons before getting the call to take over at Providence.

He takes over the Friars after former head coach Ed Cooley departed to Georgetown this past offseason, which should make for great season storylines. The stakes will rise for Coach English as he joins one of college basketball’s best conferences in the Big East. But he’s got some talent he’s bringing along with him which should allow him to fare very well in his first season with the Friars.

The Friars rotation will return just five players from last year’s squad but Coach English will bring with him Josh Oduro, Davonte Gaines and Justyn Fernandez from George Mason’s roster last year. He’ll also add highly-rated freshman Garwey Dual to the fold on the wing. There’s potential for this lineup to gel right away given the return of Jayden Pierre, Bryce Hopkins and Devin Carter.

After finishing fourth place under Coach Cooley in the conference last season, there’s greater potential for this year’s squad to possibly run the tables in the Big East and also earn themselves an NCAA Tournament bid in the aftermath under new head coach Kim English. English won 20 games in his second year with George Mason this past season. With the presence Oduro should bring at the forward spot on both ends, Coach English has room to make some noise in his first year in the conference.
