Iowa Basketball will look to bounce back this upcoming season with the losses of Kris Murray (NBA) and Filip Rebraca (AdmiralBet ABA League) to the pros with the return of three of their top five scorers from a season ago, including the Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year in Payton Sandfort.

Tony Perkins, Patrick McCaffery, Dasonte Bowen and Josh Dix are the other returning names who should play a role in the Hawkeyes success in 2023-24. Iowa went 19-14 and finished fifth in the Big Ten standings but still earned an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament this past season. They lost to No.9-seed Auburn as an eighth seed in the first round.

They’ll have a few different “horses” in their stable this upcoming season with a few additions out of the transfer portal while returning an intriguing cast of names who should turn heads in the Big Ten this season. Big men Ben Krikke (Valparaiso) and Even Brauns (Belmont) should carve out roles for themselves in the frontcourt given their added experience.

Both are capable of establishing themselves in the painted area given their production, so far. However, fans should look for freshmen Brock Harding and Owen Freeman to play early roles in the rotation as well. Both showed early signs that they’re ready to compete following the team’s exhibition tour in France this past August.

One key for the Hawkeyes is depth as they look to compete once again in the conference this season. Take a look at the projected starting lineup and depth chart for the Hawkeyes heading into a new year.
