West Virginia Basketball: Projected starting lineup and depth chart for 2023-24

West Virginia Basketball will return just four players from last year’s squad as they return in 2023-24 with a completely different look and some high-level additions with the potential to contribute right away. First-year interim head coach Josh Eilert will have his hands full this upcoming year as he looks to return the Mountaineers to glory on the hardwood in the Big 12. On the flip side, he’s spent the last 16 seasons on the West Virginia coaching staff.

The Mountaineers were probably the biggest winners in this year’s transfer portal sweepstakes as they welcome nine newcomers to a completely overhauled roster which follows in the wake of the resignation of head coach Bob Huggins due to a few off-the-court issues. Things will look a whole lot different for West Virginia in the Big 12 as they look to bounce back from a 19-15 season which saw them finish eighth in the conference standings.

Jose Perez (Manhattan), Jesse Edwards (Syracuse), Kerr Kriisa (Arizona) and RaeQuan Battle (Montana State) Perez was the best player on Manhattan’s roster back in 2021-22 before enrolling in the spring of the 2022-23 season with West Virginia. Edwards joins looking to replace the defensive anchor that Tre Mitchell played this past year. Kriisa and Battle have the potential to be quite the hand-full in the backcourt given their prowess for scoring and making plays for others.
