Shooting Guard

Starter – RaeQuan Battle (30 mpg)

RaeQuan Battle is another backcourt addition for the Mountaineers out of the transfer portal whose status grew a ton across the month of March as he led Montana State to the NCAA Tournament this past season. Battle took home Big Sky Tournament MVP after finishing with 25 points in the tournament championship against Northern Colorado on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor and 3-of-4 shooting from deep. He concluded the season with a 27-point outing on 3-of-5 shooting from deep and 9-of-17 from the field to show off his abilities against Kansas State of the Big 12.

He finished the year with 17.7 ppg and 2.9 rpg on 35.3 percent shooting from deep and 46.9 percent shooting from the field in 2022-23. He’s shown he can perform against at least one Big 12 opponent with his length and shooting ability in the backcourt. Look for him to emerge at the off-guard role for West Virginia with Kerr Kriisa calling the shots.

Bench – Kobe Johnson (10 mpg)

Kobe Johnson is another returner from last year’s squad who should see reserve minutes in the backcourt. He’s entering his third season with the Mountaineers with production of 1.7 ppg across 61 appearances from 2021-23 but does have eight starts under his belt. He’ll compete for minutes in the backcourt this season.
