Ohio State Basketball: Projected starting lineup and depth chart for 2023-24
Shooting Guard
Starter – Roddy Gayle Jr.
Roddy Gayle Jr. is another returning name for the Buckeyes with a bright future ahead of him entering his sophomore season. He’s a 6-foot-4 guard who made his debut this past season with 4.6 ppg and 1.6 rpg on 42.9 percent shooting from deep across 35 appearances. He did manage to make 11 starts as a freshman.
Across those 11 starts, he shot 57.1 percent (12-for-21) from deep and 52.6 percent from the floor. He had his best outing in 2022-23 against Purdue back on March 11 when he finished with 20 points on 5-for-6 shooting from deep. He should produce nicely for the Buckeyes in 2023-24 at the starting shooting guard role.
Bench – Scotty Middleton
Scotty Middleton is an intriguing name out of Sunrise Christian Academy who joins the Buckeyes over the likes of Kansas, Seton Hall, Texas A&M and UConn, who were in his final five. He put up 12.0 ppg and 2.0 apg in his final year of high school ball with Sunrise. He’s a sizeable guard prospect at 6-foot-6 who could also see time at the lead guard role given his exploits with the ball. He’s got the potential to make an early impact as a young name off the bench for this group.
