NC State Basketball: 2023-24 season preview for the Wolfpack
NC State basketball returns for another season looking to make another appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Head coach Kevin Keatts led the Wolfpack to just their second appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2022-23 since he took over the job in 2017-18. Just when it looked as though the seat was getting warm for him, he found a way to lead his squad to a 23-11 record and 12-8 in ACC play. Finishing sixth place was enough to earn an at-large bid though they fell in the first round to Creighton as an 11-seed.
Casey Morsell and D.J. Burns are the leading names as two of five returning names from last year’s squad. There’s room for L.J. Thomas and Breon Pass to grow into bigger roles in the backcourt and Ernest Ross could break out in the frontcourt off the bench.
Depth is one thing that shouldn’t be an issue for the Wolfpack. Given their additions from the transfer portal and in their 2023 recruiting class, there’s plenty of opportunity for their team to grow, especially in the frontcourt with D.J. Burns leading the charge. Ben Middlebrooks (Clemson) joins the frontcourt following a short stint with the Tigers and has shown early signs he’s ready to contribute with his versatility at 6-foot-10. Mohamed Diarra is another name who’s due to grow with this group after spending this past season at Missouri. In total, seven names will join the roster out of the transfer portal.
NC State has a chance to rack up 20+ wins once again and be a contender in the ACC ranks. Take a look at the season preview for the Wolfpack heading into the 2023-24 season.
