5. Alabama Crimson Tide

Last season: 31-6, 16-2 in the SEC

The Alabama Crimson Tide return just three players from last year’s squad in Mark Sears, Rylen Griffen and Nick Pringle. The Brandon Miller Experience went well as Miller took home SEC Player of the Year award and the Crimson Tide won the regular season conference title and conference tournament title this past season. The glory days might be over for the Crimson Tide, at least in the early going, in 2023-24.

Head coach Nate Oats will have a tough task on his hands as he looks to rebuild last year’s rotation but with Grant Nelson (North Dakota State), Aaron Estrada (Hofstra), Latrell Wrightsell Jr. (CS Fullerton) and Mohamad Wague (West Virginia).

Nelson was a two-way menace in the Summit League this past season as he took home Summit All-Defense and first-team All-Summit League honors after finishing with 17.9 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 2.1 apg and 1.7 bpg on 52.1 percent shooting from the floor. He’ll be one to watch with this group as many NBA Draft boards have his name in this year’s class as a projected draft pick.

Outside of Nelson, Coach Oats will need one of their freshman names to step up in a big way. Jarin Stevenson is a recent addition who reclassed into the 2023 class this past summer. He could find his way in the rotation as they look to build depth this upcoming year to compete in the SEC.
