Michigan State Basketball found a way to keep it in the family this past weekend, landing four-star guard prospect, Jase Richardson.

Coming off landing a top-5 incoming recruiting class, Coach Tom Izzo and Michigan State Basketball are working on an elite group for the 2024 cycle as well. So far, the team has landed two top-100 commits in forward Jesse McCulloch and guard Kur Teng.

The Spartans have targeted other 2024 players, including Jase Richardson. He’s a four-star combo guard, listed at 6’4, and is a capable ball-handler and can play off the ball. Ranked in the top 50 (according to 247sportsComposite), Richardson had a ton of interest from the top NCAA Basketball programs.

Jase is the son of Jason Richardson, a former NBA all-star and all-time great Michigan State player, who played from 1999-2001. Having the son of a player you coached makes it a “must get” for Coach, especially for a top-50 player that can certainly have an impact on the team.

Reportedly, Richardson was down to three teams, with Alabama proving to be the toughest competitor for the Spartans. And on paper, they had a lot of future playing time available in the backcourt if Mark Sears and Latrell Wrightsell Jr. go pro. Michigan State does lose Tyson Walker after this season, though both AJ Hoggard and Jaden Akins have another year of eligibility.

Jeremy Fears Jr. is another top-50 point prospect that’s joining the team. If he sticks around for a few years, Richardson may have to play off the ball more with the Spartans or could create the new dynamic backcourt duo for the foreseeable future.

Depending on what a couple of players with covid decisions, Michigan State Basketball may already be done with its 2024 class. One player that they’re still after is Bryson Tucker, a top-30 small forward target. His recruitment has gone slow so he could make his move around the Spring. But for now, the Spartans are in a good spot with what they have now.
