The recruitment of 5-star PG prospect Boogie Fland has reached its conclusion, with Kentucky Basketball beating rival Indiana for his services.

One of the biggest recruitments of the entire NCAA Basketball offseason has been Boogie Fland, a 5-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting class. He’s a 6’2 playmaker from New York, known for being an elite scorer and two-way prospect. Fland has had a number of big-name programs after him, including Kentucky Basketball.

The two key guards on the current roster for the Wildcats are DJ Wagner and Robert Dillingham, both of whom are five-star freshmen prospects who could go pro after one year. If that happens, the team will need to find another ball-handler ready to contribute in the 2024-25 campaign to replace both of them. And on Friday afternoon, it looks as if the Wildcats found that guy.

Coming into Friday, Kentucky was part of a three-way battle for Fland. Indiana and Alabama were the other contenders. The Hoosiers recently landed 5-star wing prospect Liam McNeeley and were hoping to double-up in the 2024 class. And the Crimson Tide have been in the mix for several top-tier prospects and could land multiple of them in the coming weeks.

In the end, Coach John Calipari lands yet another five-star prospect that’ll be set to get plenty of immediate playing time. He joins top-40 center commit, Somto Cyril, to make for a two-man class for the SEC program right now. Yet more could be on the way. Recently, the Wildcats made the top-4 cut for four-star wings, Kevin Knox and Billy Richmond. They’re also in the mix for four-star local guard Travis Perry, along with five-star center prospect, Patrick Ngongba II.

As always, expect Kentucky Basketball to have a top-3 recruiting class for the upcoming cycle. The question is, who’ll be a part of it? We now know two names confirmed, with Boogie Fland making it official.
