Maryland basketball is rolling already after one season under head coach Kevin Willard. The Terrapins are coming off a 22-13 record that saw them finish fifth in the Big Ten standings and earn a 9-seed in the South region of the NCAA Tournament. They fell in the second round of the tournament but, with a bulk of their roster back and more two-way pieces added to the fold, Coach Willard and the Terrapins look to keep things going.

The team returns three of their top four scorers from last year’s squad. They’ll add a trio of pieces from the DMV area and another trio of acquisitions out of the transfer portal as they look to continue their success on the hardwood heading into 2023-24.

Jahmir Young, Julian Reese and Donta Scott are the leading returning names while DeShawn Harris-Smith, Jamie Kaiser and Jahnathan Lamothe are a trio from their 2023 recruiting class from the DMV scene looking to make a splash in the rotation in their debut seasons.

Chance Stephens (Loyola Marymount), Jordan Geronimo (Indiana) and Mady Traore (New Mexico State) are their transfer portal additions with some experience already under their belt. Geronimo has conference experience already while Stephens and Traore will look to show they can contribute on the Power 6 Conference stage.

Year 2 under Coach Willard should be an interesting one as he looks to make it two NCAA Tournament appearances in a row. He’s certainly got the roster for it. Take a look at the 2023-24 season preview for the Maryland Terrapins.
