Arkansas Basketball: 2023-24 season preview for the Razorbacks
Projected starting lineup
Point Guard: El Ellis
Ellis joins the Razorbacks in the SEC after spending the past two seasons in the ACC with the Louisville Cardinals. He dished out a career-high 4.4 apg along with 17.7 ppg and 2.6 rpg on 31.9 percent shooting from behind the arc and 41 percent from the field. He’s an electric lead guard who will look to lead this group with his ability to operate off the bounce. Point guard is the team’s biggest question mark and he’ll look to fill the void with his skill set.
Shooting Guard: Davonte Davis
Davis is a returning face for the Razorbacks who’s continued to improve as he enters his fourth season in the SEC. He produced 10.9 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 2.5 apg and 1.4 spg on 34.6 percent shooting from deep and 41.5 percent from the floor in 2022-23 while earning SEC All-Defensive honors. He’ll look to add more to his trophy case as a leader on both ends of the floor for this year’s group. He should set quite the tone alongside El Ellis and Tramon Mark in their 3-guard front.
Guard/Wing: Tramon Mark
Mark is another addition from the Big 12’s Houston Cougars rotation as he looks to make a bigger splash with Arkansas in the SEC. He’s another defensive-minded guard who should add quite the edge to an intriguing cast of names. He averaged 10.1 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 1.8 apg, and 1.1 spg on 32.8 percent shooting from deep and 39 percent from the field this past season at Houston. At 6-foot-5, he’ll be another presence who should add to Coach Musselman’s style of versatile and strong defensive groups.
Power Forward: Chandler Lawson
Lawson joins the Razorbacks rotation after spending the past two seasons in the AAC with the Memphis Tigers. He averaged 5.0 ppg and 4.5 rpg on 56.7 percent shooting across 35 appearances (24 starts) in 2022-23. He’s a sizeable forward prospect at 6-foot-8 who’s shown he can hold his own in the painted area and beyond. With his versatility and mobility, he should give Arkansas a quality veteran in the frontcourt for teams to deal with.
Center/Forward: Trevon Brazile
Brazile was set to make quite the impact this past season before his season was derailed due to injury. He averaged 11.8 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.2 bpg, 1.0 spg and 1.0 apg on 48.1 percent shooting from the field across nine games before missing the rest of 2022-23. He’s an athletic two-way presence who’s set to develop in the SEC this season. He should provide quite the anchor support at the center/forward spot as he returns and looks to make an impact in the starting rotation.
