Michigan State Basketball: Game previews for both Butler and Alcorn State
By Ryan Kay
Michigan State Basketball did not have the start of the season that they wanted but they look to give Butler their first loss of the season and then win again on Sunday against Alcorn State.
Let’s take a look at their Gavitt Tipoff Games opponent as well as their Acrisure Invitational opponent as well.
Meetings between the two teams: These two schools have faced off in two games in recent years, and both teams have prevailed in those encounters. Butler overcame the Spartans in the 2010 NCAA Tournament, while Michigan State emerged victorious in the most recent one in 2021.
Present Win Streak: The Spartans have a one-game winning streak in this series between these two programs after winning the most recent game between these two universities.
The most recent meeting of the two schools: In 2021, Michigan State defeated Butler away from home by a final score of 73-52.
Prediction: Michigan State wins 74–61 in the end against Butler.
In the Acrisure Invitational, Michigan State will play host to Alcorn State.
Match Up: No. 18 Michigan State (1-2) versus Alcorn State (1-3)
Date: Sunday, November 19, at Breslin Center in East Lansing, Michigan
TV/Online: Big Ten Network
Alcorn State’s previous season: After defeating Grambling in the regular season, they shared the SWAC regular season championship and were awarded the top seed in their conference tournament. They were invited to the NIT but were defeated by North Texas in the tournament.
Present Win Streak: With a one-game winning streak in this series, the Spartans have won the only meeting between these two universities.
Most recent meeting: The Braves were defeated by Michigan State 118-60 on their home court in their most recent meeting with the school in 2008.
Game Forecast: Michigan State 91, Alcorn State 71 is the prediction.
If the Spartans can’t manage to beat either of these teams coming up, things will get even more dire for the program.
