The spring NCAA Transfer Portal window opened on Monday (March 24) amid the news of the Texas basketball program hiring new head coach Sean Miller early this offseason. The Xavier Musketeers third-year head coach Miller was officially announced as the new Texas head coach on Monday.
This comes one day after the news was reported that Texas had let go of head coach Rodney Terry after three seasons with the program.
Miller will have his plate full immediately at Texas, rebuilding the roster with the transfer portal window opening for the spring early this week.
Dailyn Swain, F
Sophomore wing/forward Dailyn Swain was one of the most potent and lengthy two-way players Miller and the Musketeers had in their entire rotation this past season in the Big East. Swain earned a bigger role in Xavier's rotation this past season, starting a career-high 33 games and scoring at a career-high clip of 11 points per game.
It was reported by On3 on March 24 that Swain "plans to enter the transfer portal" this offseason. One of the most improved players on Xavier's roster in the season that was will be looking for another step in his college hoops journey, in which he has two years of eligibility remaining at his next stop at another new program.
He was very impressive in Xavier's Round of 64 loss in the NCAA Tournament to the six-seed Illinois, scoring a career-high 27 points and eight rebounds against one of the better defensive teams from the Big Ten.
Swain is one of the top players Miller could bring with him from Xavier to build out the roster at Texas this offseason and going into the 2025-26 season.
Blake Harper, SG
Texas will be opening up the checkbook for the NIL budget for the transfer portal early this offseason for the spring window. Miller and the Longhorns will be looking to attract top talents from the portal to Austin to build out a solidified starting five to succeed in the SEC going into the 2025-26 season, starting out with some high-quality scorers and two-way-caliber players in the backcourt.
Former Howard breakout star shooting guard and true freshman Blake Harper is one of the top players available in the transfer portal that the Longhorns could hypothetically pursue on the market this spring to build out the new backcourt under Miller.
Harper has the length and elite offensive tools to be a standout guard in Miller's free-flowing and floor-spacing offensive system from the backcourt. He led the MEAC in scoring, at a clip of 19.5 points per game in the 2024-25 season, en route to earning MEAC Player of the Year honors.
There is an intriguing connection between Harper and one of the top high school signees from Miller and Xavier's 2025 recruiting class, high-four-star Gonzaga College point guard Nyk Lewis.
Harper and Lewis played together as teammates at Gonzaga College for multiple years before Harper committed to Howard University in Washington DC in the last full recruiting cycle for 2024.
Elyjah Freeman, SF
Former DII Lincoln Memorial University small forward transfer Elyjah Freeman comes out of the state of Tennessee this offseason as one of the top scorers from that division level in college hoops. Freeman nearly averaged a double-double per game at LMU this past season, scoring a team-high 19.3 points per game and 9.1 rebounds.
The floor-spacing and rebounding Freeman brings could be a game-changer in the SEC on the wing and with switchability on the defensive end between the three and the four. He shot over 46 percent from deep this past season, and ranked among the top 20 best defensive rebounders in Division II.
Freeman is the top-ranked Division II All-American transfer in the portal early this offseason after he announced his intentions to transfer on March 17 last week.
