It has been less than a banner year for the Big East as the conference approaches the final week of January. While Dan Hurley and the UConn Huskies remain the clear class of the league, there are legitimate questions throughout the rest of the standings. With roster turnover and coaching storylines looming beyond this season, several programs are searching for consistency. Before looking ahead, here is a snapshot of where the Big East stands right now.
Big East Power Rankings
Updated through games played Saturday, January 24, 2026
11. Providence Friars (9-11, 2-7)
Providence is tied at the bottom of the conference standings and continues to struggle for traction. The Friars have dropped back-to-back games, losing on the road at Marquette and at home to Georgetown. Their last win came at home against Creighton, though they did manage an earlier road upset at St. John’s. Next up is a difficult road test at UConn, followed by another away game to close the month.
10. Marquette Golden Eagles (7-14, 2-8)
It has been a challenging season in Milwaukee, with Marquette managing just seven overall wins. The Golden Eagles did show offensive life in their most recent outing, scoring 105 points in a home win over Providence. Chase Ross leads the way at 15.6 points per game. Marquette hosts Creighton on Tuesday before heading to Seton Hall to finish January.
9. Georgetown Hoyas (10-10, 2-7)
Georgetown snapped a six-game losing streak with an 81–78 home win over Providence, marking its first victory of the 2026 calendar year. The Hoyas had previously suffered a 15-point loss at Villanova during that skid. K.J. Lewis leads the team at 15.2 points per game. Georgetown hosts DePaul next before traveling to Butler on January 31.
8. Xavier Musketeers (11-9, 3-6)
Xavier has dropped two straight games, including a loss that coincided with Rick Pitino’s 900th career coaching win. Prior to the skid, the Musketeers had home victories over Providence and Butler. Defensive lapses have been an issue, including allowing 94 points at Creighton. Xavier heads to Seton Hall on Wednesday and closes January at home against DePaul.
7. Seton Hall Pirates (14-6, 4-5)
After a 14-2 start, Seton Hall has fallen into a four-game losing streak. Losses to UConn, Butler, St. John’s, and DePaul have exposed offensive inconsistencies, with the Pirates averaging 71.6 points per game. Seton Hall returns home to host Xavier and Marquette in a critical stretch to regain momentum.
6. DePaul Blue Demons (12-8, 4-5)
DePaul sits tied in the middle of the league standings and has quietly won four of its last six games. A recent home win over Seton Hall highlighted that run, with the only losses coming at UConn and Butler. C.J. Gunn leads the offense at 14.8 points per game. The Blue Demons now head out for road games at Georgetown and Xavier before hosting St. John’s on February 3.
5. Butler Bulldogs (13-7, 4-5)
Butler is one of the hotter teams in the conference, riding a three-game winning streak after previously dropping four straight. During the current run, the Bulldogs have beaten Seton Hall, DePaul, and Marquette. Finley Bizjack continues to pace the team at 17.5 points per game. Butler travels to St. John’s next before hosting Georgetown to close January.
4. Creighton Blue Jays (12-8, 6-3)
Creighton has shown signs of stabilization after a rocky start. The Blue Jays won four straight games earlier this month before hitting another uneven stretch. Their most recent outing was a bounce-back win over Xavier. Creighton travels to Marquette on Tuesday and then hosts UConn in one of the marquee games of the week.
3. Villanova Wildcats (15-5, 6-3)
Villanova suffered an eight-point road loss at UConn on Saturday, their second defeat in the past five games. The Wildcats’ other recent loss came at home to St. John’s, but they continue to handle business against the rest of the league. Bryce Lindsey leads the team at 14.1 points per game, while Acaden Lewis adds 11.9 points and 5.2 assists. Villanova hosts Providence on January 30 before welcoming Seton Hall in early February.
2. St. John’s Red Storm (15-5, 8-1)
Rick Pitino’s Red Storm are rolling, winners of six straight since an early home loss to Providence. The latest victory came on the road at Xavier, marking Pitino’s 900th career win. Zuby Ejifor leads St. John’s with 15.7 points per game. The Red Storm host Butler next before traveling to DePaul on February 3.
1. UConn Huskies (19-1, 9-0)
UConn remains the standard in the Big East, sitting atop the standings with a 15-game winning streak. The Huskies’ lone loss came by four points against Arizona earlier in the season. Most recently, they defeated Villanova at home, following road wins at Seton Hall and Georgetown. Solo Ball leads the team at 14.6 points per game. UConn hosts Providence on Tuesday before heading to Creighton to close January.
UConn and St. John’s continue to separate themselves at the top, while Villanova remains firmly in the next tier. Beyond that, the Big East is filled with uncertainty, setting the stage for a compelling final stretch of conference play.
