Duke Basketball: 2024-25 season preview for the Blue Devils
Potential Reserves for Duke
Mason Gillis | 6'6 | 225 lbs.
Gillis is set to be the ultimate glue guy and veteran leader as he brings his winning pedigree from the Big Ten and Purdue into the fold in Durham with the Blue Devils. He's geared to operate at any role off the bench after winning the Big Ten Sixth Man of the Year this past season. He averaged 6.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game, generating an offensive rating of 137.4 and a defensive rating of 105.7 when he was on the floor.
Sion James | 6'6 | 220 lbs.
James is another big, strong athletic guard/wing presence to get to know as he joins the Blue Devils from Tulane. He had his best season in 2023-24, producing 14.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.6 steals per game while shooting 38.1 percent from 3-point land. He'll look to inject his stat-sheet-stuffing ways into the ACC after generating an offensive rating of 123.7 (third in the AAC) this past season.
Maliq Brown | 6'9 | 222 lbs.
Brown joins the Blue Devils frontcourt with ACC experience already after spending the past two seasons with the Syracuse Orange. He put up 9.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1.8 assists per game across 32 games (18 starts) in 2023-24. If he works out as he did with the Orange off the bench this past season, look for him to make a bigger impact in a higher-paced offense.
Darren Harris | 6'6 | 203 lbs.
Harris is another freshman name who should see early minutes given his ability to find points in a hurry. He put up 10 points in just 14 minutes of action against the Sun Devils in exhibition play, shooting 3-of-7 from the floor and 2-of-5 from deep while also getting to the free-throw line.
Isaiah Evans | 6'6 | 175 lbs.
Evans is another wing/guard who should see time in the backcourt as the season progresses. He's a volume-scoring threat who could utilize a season or two with the Blue Devils to raise his stock as a potential lottery pick in the near future. He had five points, two assists and a rebound in their exhibition victory.
