Last season, Hubert Davis left more questions unanswered than answered after leading the North Carolina Tar Heels to a disappointing 23-14 overall record and a first-round exit from the NCAA Tournament.
Now, the upcoming season could be make or break for the UNC head coach despite taking the Tar Heels to the National Championship just a few years ago.
Let's be honest, North Carolina holds its men's basketball head coaches to astronomical expectations. How can you not when it's the program with the most national championships in the entire country? However, the national runner-up finish in 2022 was the best Davis has achieved, and that could be (almost) entirely attributed to the legacy of Roy Williams' reign.
Months before the season was upon the Tar Heels, Davis sent a very clear message to the UNC fan base and college basketball fans across the nation: he wasn't going anywhere.
"I'm just really looking forward to this season and coaching another year and representing this great university," Davis told Inside Carolina.
A very important season ahead for Hubert & the team.

That just about squashed any ideas that Davis would be logging back into LinkedIn or Indeed for their job boards, despite a few Tar Heels fans asking for his job to be terminated after last year.
The biggest hurdle that Davis has yet to surmount? The Duke Blue Devils. Over his four years as UNC's head coach, Davis has led the Tar Heels to just four wins over Duke, losing to the Blue Devils on six occasions.
To put it lightly, this isn't acceptable for North Carolina. With only three regular-season wins over the Blue Devils, the Tar Heels are in a virtual slump against their rivals from down the road. Yes, Duke had the prodigy Cooper Flagg last season, but three losses to a rival in one year? No wonder people were calling for Davis' head.
Davis feels secure in his role; he made that much obvious by sharing how much he's looking forward to the upcoming season. However, that upcoming season could either cement his job at North Carolina or send him packing.
