The Kansas Jayhawks head back on the road Saturday for a Big 12 test against the West Virginia Mountaineers in Morgantown. Kansas enters off a dramatic home win over TCU and carries an 11–4 overall record. The Jayhawks opened the week ranked No. 22 in the Associated Press poll and are 1–1 in conference play, with their lone league loss coming at UCF.
Outside of Big 12 action, Kansas has been tested by an aggressive nonconference slate. Losses to UConn, Duke, and North Carolina have exposed some road inconsistencies, something head coach Bill Self continues to emphasize. The good news for Kansas is the expected availability of freshman Darryn Peterson, who has been one of the most productive newcomers in the country.
West Virginia is also coming in with momentum after a home win over Cincinnati. The Mountaineers are 10–5 overall and 1–1 in Big 12 play, having opened league action with a tough road loss at Iowa State. Additional setbacks against Ohio State, Wake Forest, Xavier, and Clemson underline just how demanding their schedule has been.
The challenge does not ease after Saturday either, as West Virginia remains on the road next with a trip to Houston.

This sets up as one of the more intriguing Big 12 matchups of the weekend. Kansas still has something to prove away from Allen Fieldhouse after a disappointing showing in Orlando earlier this season. If the Jayhawks expect to stay in the top tier of the conference race, this is the type of road game they need to handle.
For West Virginia, this is an opportunity to make a statement. A home win over a ranked opponent would resonate in the standings and with a demanding stretch still ahead. Expect a physical, competitive atmosphere in Morgantown and a game that stays tight well into the second half.
