Kentucky has secured an important visit with one of the most productive young guards in the country.
Brady Pettigrew, a 6-foot-3 combo guard from Bolingbrook, Illinois, is scheduled to begin an official visit to Lexington on Oct. 23. His trip will coincide with Kentucky’s preseason exhibition against Texas Tech at Rupp Arena, according to On3.
That timing is not accidental.
Mark Pope will have an opportunity to show Pettigrew the complete Kentucky basketball experience, including a major-name opponent, an energetic game atmosphere and the expectations surrounding the program.

Pettigrew has attracted attention from Kentucky, North Carolina, Michigan, Indiana, Florida, Illinois, BYU, Ohio State and Arkansas.
The interest is easy to understand.
Playing for Bradley Beal Elite on the EYBL circuit, Pettigrew averaged 23.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.4 steals and 2.0 assists. He shot 47.2 percent from the field and an impressive 46.2 percent from 3-point range, according to A Sea of Blue.
Those numbers describe more than a high-volume scorer.
Pettigrew can pressure defenses with the ball, punish defenders who retreat under screens and create disruption at the other end. His shooting would make him particularly attractive in Pope’s spacing-heavy offense.
Kentucky offered Pettigrew on July 21 after his productive summer. Getting him to campus only a few months later represents important progress, even if his recruitment remains far from finished.
The Wildcats cannot rely entirely on tradition when recruiting elite prospects. Players want to see how they will be used, how a coaching staff develops guards and whether the surrounding roster complements their strengths.

Pettigrew will see Rupp Arena, Kentucky’s offensive structure and the attention attached to every Wildcats game. He also will have an opportunity to evaluate whether Lexington feels like a potential home rather than simply a famous basketball destination.
One visit will not decide a national recruitment.
Kentucky has positioned itself to make an unusually memorable first impression.
