North Carolina and Hubert Davis on verge of losing dream PG target to BYU

This would not be ideal, but a backup plan could be in place.

What are Hubert Davis and North Carolina going to cook up at point guard for next season? This is a question that remains unanswered, with the Tar Heels losing out on some of their top transfer portal targets at the position.

Some fans were excited when Elliot Cadeau announced he was going to be entering the transfer portal. However, those same people must be a bit nervous that no replacement has been brought in yet. Earlier this week, plenty of heads were turned when Baylor standout freshman Robert Wright decided to enter the portal.

Almost immediately, he was linked with North Carolina and UNC supporters were dreaming of him making the move to Chapel Hill. That idea may already be off the table, however, as multiple analysts have predicted Wright to end up signing with BYU. This would of course be a bummer for Davis and Co.

Baylor transfer Robert Wright is now expected to spurn UNC and others for BYU

That's right, among those expecting Wright to be Provo-bound is On3's Joe Tipton, who has given this a 60 percent chance of happening. We don't want to get into rumors, but there's speculation flying around that BYU is ready to give Wright a wild amount of NIL money to land him.

As for the Tar Heels, there are of course other options still out there. Later this week, Michigan State transfer Tre Holloman is expected to be on campus for a visit. The program is also showing interest in Colorado State's Kyan Evans and Princeton's Xaivian Lee.

Bringing in either of those guys mentioned above would be a positive for Hubert. However, Wright is a former 5-star prospect and he's coming off a fantastic freshman season in the Big 12. He certainly would have been a splash addition for Davis at a time when he needs one, but BYU appears to have the edge here. At this point, it'd be a bit of a surprise if he doesn't end up signing with the Cougars.
