ACC Basketball: Top 20 transfers heading into 2024-25 season
Like all conferences, ACC Basketball got a nice boost from last year’s transfer classes. Some top impact players include Hunter Sallis (Wake Forest), Harrison Ingram (UNC), Jamir Watkins (FSU), and DJ Horne (NC State), who had significant years on their respective teams.
So, which newcomers from the transfer portal will have the most significant impact this upcoming season? Here’s a look at the top 20 players to watch in the ACC.
20) Toibu Lawal | 6'8 Forward | Virginia Tech Hokies
Toibu Lawal is a budding name to know joining the Virginia Tech Hokies rotation out of the transfer portal from the VCU Rams in the A10. He had himself a productive year in head coach Ryan Odom's first season, putting up 7.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game off the bench.
His addition fills a real void in the frontcourt for the Hokies by the loss of Lynn Kidd. He's got the potential to fit right in alongside Mylyjeal Poteat as an athletic forward presence who can also stretch the floor on the perimeter offensively.
Lawal really came out of his shell this past season as a reserve with the Rams in the A10. As he's reunited with assistant coach JD Byers with the Hokies, look for him to turn another corner in his development as a versatile wing/forward.
19) TreVon Spillers | 6'7 Forward | Wake Forest Demon Deacons
TreVon Spillers is a name that should grow on people with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. He's a 6-foot-7 wiry forward who put up 11 double-doubles while producing 12.8 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game for Appalachian State in the Sun Belt Conference.
He was a First Team All-Sun Belt selection when it was all said and done after finishing third in the conference in defensive rating (93.4), fifth in rebounds (301), and fifth in blocks (44) while averaging a double-double at 13.7 points and 10.2 rebounds per contest in conference play. He's got the potential to fill quite the void for Wake Forest this upcoming season.
Don't be surprised if Spillers is a household name by the end of things as he continues to climb the college ranks. Just two seasons ago, he was at Moberly Area Community College where he became a NJCAA First Team All-American.
