Boston College Basketball: 2024-25 season preview for Eagles
Overall schedule for Boston College in 2024-25
The Golden Eagles don't have the easiest non-conference schedule given the amount of talent spread out among the college basketball landscape with the transfer portal and beyond. With 11 non-conference foes on the 2024-25 schedule, their overall performance should tell a story for how the season will go given there are many "cupcakes" on the schedule.
They'll open the season at home against The Citadel on Nov. 4 which should be a victory for them but things don't get any easier after that. They'll face the VCU Rams in the 11th Annual Veterans Classic on Nov. 8 in Annapolis then host Temple a week later in Chestnut Hill in what should be another challenging one for them. These two games will be an early indication on where this team is from a chemistry and identity standpoint.
Boston College will host Loyola (MD) at home on Nov. 19 before traveling to the Grand Cayman Classic (Nov. 24-26) for a trio of games against Old Dominion and potentially the likes of Missouri State/High Point and Hampton/Boise State and Duquesne/South Dakota State depending on the results.
The Golden Eagles return home on Nov. 29 to host Dartmouth, a sleeper in the Ivy League ranks. After that, they'll host the South Carolina Gamecocks in the ACC/SEC Challenge on Dec. 3 before heading on the road for their first conference game against Wake Forest. It will be another pivotal moment for them heading into the month of December in terms of how their overall season will go.
On Dec. 15, Boston College will host Chas Kelley III's former team in Stonehill then they'll square off with the SMU Mustangs, an inaugural member of the ACC on Dec. 21.
Boston College will close out the non-conference schedule against Fairleigh Dickinson on Dec. 28 before beginning the bulk of the ACC schedule on Jan. 1 at home against the Miami Hurricanes.
16 games will follow for the Golden Eagles and with the additions of the California Golden Bears, Stanford Cardinal and SMU, things will be a lot tougher across the conference landscape. They'll face both Cal and Stanford on the road this season while having just three home-away series between Syracuse, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech. The toughest road game looks to be the North Carolina Tar Heels on Jan. 25. They'll also face Virginia on the road on Jan. 21.
Finishing above .500 in the win-loss column in conference play would be the biggest overachievement with this squad on paper. While there's potential for them to explore a few different options on offense, versatility-wise, defensively, there's not a ton of size or experience on the interior to contend with talent across the landscape. Don't be surprised if it's another season of growing pains for Boston College.
