Indiana State advances to MVC Semifinals with convincing win over Missouri State

In a pivotal matchup at the 2024 State Farm MVC Tournament, the top-seeded Indiana State Sycamores showed why the are the #1 seed, defeating the Missouri State Bears 75-59 in Game 5 and securing a spot in the semifinals against #4 Northern Iowa.
Led by standout performances from Ryan Conwell, Robbie Avila, and Isaiah Swope, the Sycamores demonstrated their offensive prowess and defensive tenacity throughout the game. Conwell led the charge with 20 points, six rebounds, and three steals, while Avila contributed 14 points, including key free throws, and Swope added 13 points despite struggling from beyond the arc.
Despite a valiant effort from Missouri State's Donovan Clay and N.J. Benson, who scored 18 and 12 points respectively, the Bears ultimately fell short against Indiana State's relentless attack.
The victory marked Indiana State's fifth consecutive win, extending their record to an impressive 27-5 for the season. It also marked the third time in program history that the Sycamores achieved 27 wins or more, highlighting their exceptional performance this season.
Indiana State's success extended beyond the court, as they improved their MVC Tournament record to 30-40 and advanced to the semifinal round for the 10th time, including the second consecutive year. The Sycamores' conference regular-season championship added to their momentum, marking a significant achievement for the team.
Throughout the game, Indiana State displayed their depth and versatility, with multiple players reaching double figures in scoring. Notably, Jayson Kent secured his team-leading eighth double-double of the year, contributing 12 points and 14 rebounds to the Sycamores' victory.
The Bears, despite their efforts, were unable to overcome Indiana State's relentless pressure. Missouri State's season came to an end with a 17-16 record, falling short of their aspirations for the MVC Tournament.
Indiana State's offensive scoring ability was evident in both halves of the game, as they maintained control from start to finish. The Sycamores' strong second-half performance, marked by a 7-0 run midway through the period, solidified their lead and ensured their victory.
