NCAA Basketball: Analyzing 7 reported contenders for 5-star PG Mikel Brown
One of the best players in the 2025 NCAA Basketball recruiting class is Mikel Brown, a 6'2 point guard from Orlando, Florida. What he lacks in natural size, the talented playmaker makes up for in natural scoring and shooting ability. Currently at Overtime Elite in Atlanta, Georgia, Brown has emerged as a standout prospect who has the attention of many power conference teams.
Recently, big-time basketball recruiting expert Rob Cassidy had an article about the latest in Brown's recruitment, including talk of a potential reclass from 2025 to 2024, making him eligible to play next season. There were seven teams listed that could have a shot at the top-20 prospect.
Here's a closer look at how Brown would fit with each potential option, looking at both years he could join with each of them.
Alabama Crimson Tide
Considering the success Coach Nate Oats usually has with guards and Mark Sears playing at an SEC POY level, it makes sense why Brown would consider this regional option. Assuming Sears does go pro and Aaron Estrada moving on, the Tide doesn't have any ball-handler options to turn to for next season.
After missing out on top 2024 targets like Zoom Diallo, Brown would be a great reclass option to give a lot of minutes to. Even if they were to add another veteran ball-handler, Brown is someone that could be an impact contributor as a freshman before taking over the following year.
