In July, we’re the NCAA Basketball transfer portal and the high school/international recruiting pipeline has all but dried up, solidifying most of the high-major rosters. For some incoming freshmen, decisions have to be made. That includes the potential of reclassifying, which reportedly, was a decision made by Jeremiah Fears.

Jeremiah is the younger brother of current Michigan State guard, Jeremy Fears. He’s also a consensus four-star combo guard in the 2025 recruiting class, listed at 6’3. The younger Fears is a natural scorer, capable of scoring on and off the ball, while also being a solid passer who can run the offense.

Months ago, Fears decided to pick Illinois over Kansas, Providence, Michigan, and Ole Miss, giving the Big Ten team its first commit in the 2025 class. Even back then, he could reclass to the 2024 class and play next season. Now, a decision was made for the prospect to become a free agent again.

The announcement by Fears didn’t explicitly say that he’d reclass but reports are out there that he will indeed move up to the 2024 recruiting class. Assuming that happens (the basis for this article), some programs could definitely use Fears for the 2024-25 season. And with there aren’t being any mpre high-major caliber transfers in the portal, look for some teams to get in the mix to land him.

Here’s a list of eight NCAA Basketball programs that would make sense to target Fears.
