Butler Bulldogs

With last year’s starter Posh Alexander off to Dayton, Butler’s new lead guard is unknown. Landon Moore is back for the team, while Kolby King transferred over from Tulane. Neither are the greatest options on paper, likely forcing returning guard Jahmyl Telfort to have the ball in his hands even more next season.

This is one of the few high-major options where Fears could actually start as a freshman and if nothing else, guarantee a large role if he were to reclass. Coach Thad Matta has a great history of guard development, dating back to his days at Ohio State. His past Big Ten ties could be helpful here as well.

Florida Gators

Speaking of “guard development”, one of the rising star head coaches with a nice early resume in his career is Todd Golden of Florida. He lost his starter Zyon Pullin to the pro ranks and they do bring back Walter Clayton, who played more off-the-ball this past season.

Playing in the SEC would be big for Fears, who’d have to compete with backup guards Denzel Aberdeen and Kajus Kublickas for minutes as a freshman. Assuming he indeed can do that, the Gators would have their long-term PG of the future.
