Ohio State Buckeyes

One team that has been reportedly looking for more guard depth is Ohio State, who recently lost freshman Taison Chatman for all of next season due to an injury. That leaves just Bruce Thornton and Meechie Johnson as the projected starters, with four-star incoming freshmen guards, John Mobley Jr, and Colin White, as their only backups.

After missing out on guard transfer Tyler Cochran to Minnesota in the past week, Fears might be the Buckeyes’ last chance at getting an impact guard for next season. And even if he had to settle for limited minutes as a freshman off the bench, both Thornton and Johnson likely are gone in a year, leaving lots of playing time afterward.

Providence Friars

The lead guard for the Friars last season was Devin Carter, who is now in the NBA as a top-15 draft pick. Replacing him as the expected lead ball-handlers for 2024-25 is Jayden Pierre and Bensley Joseph, a transfer from Miami who averaged over 3.0 apg last season.

With Jabri Abdur-Rahim and Wesley Cardet Jr. joining the team as off-guards, Providence should have some solid depth for next season. However, they could use one more ball-handler to the group for next season and with many of these guys being seniors, Fears would have a nice role as soon as his sophomore campaign.
