The Darian DeVries era of West Virginia men’s basketball is inching closer and closer. DeVries was hired in March to be the head coach of the WVU basketball program, after previously serving in the same role at Drake. DeVries and WVU received their conference schedule in the new-look Big 12 Conference about a month ago, and now they have their full non-conference slate solidified as well.

The first action that the Mountaineers will have against other opponents is an overseas trip to Italy in early August.

West Virginia will match up with Italian teams on Saturday, August 3rd, Tuesday, August 6th, and Thursday, August 8th.

After the exhibition games in Italy, West Virginia will be gearing up for their season which is set to begin in early November. As you look at the schedule listed above you notice that WVU has a little bit of everything in the non-conference.

Let’s look at 4 key dates you will want to be sure you have circled on your calendar.

November 4th - vs Robert Morris

Darian DeVries and the new-look West Virginia Mountaineers will host the Robert Morris Colonials of the Horizon League in DeVries' official WVU debut.

November 15th - at Pitt

The basketball edition of the Backyard Brawl continues for the 2024-25 season, as WVU’s first true road test will come against their old Big East rivals. West Virginia won the matchups in 2021 and 2022 convincingly, but Pitt picked up a 17-point victory at the WVU Coliseum a season ago.

November 27-29 - Battle 4 Atlantis

During the week of the Thanksgiving holiday, West Virginia will be competing in the Bahamas. Over 3 days, West Virginia will play 3 of the rest of the field that including Arizona, Davidson, Gonzaga, Indiana, Louisville, Oklahoma, and Providence.

December 6th - vs Georgetown

Another Big East rivalry will be renewed as the Mountaineers host the Hoyas of Georgetown in early December. This will certainly be the biggest opportunity for the Mountaineer Maniacs to show up and show out as Georgetown comes to town looking to improve upon a 9-23 campaign a season ago.
