We are a month into the college basketball season. Thanksgiving has passed, Christmas is on deck and the Feast Week tournaments are behind us. The new NIL events have wrapped up as well. One thing we continue to track is the bottom of Division I basketball. These ten programs have struggled out of the gate and currently make up the lowest tier in the country. This was last week's.
Here is the latest bottom 10.
365. Arkansas Pine Bluff Golden Lions (0-8)
The Golden Lions remain firmly at 365 out of 365. They allowed 111 points on the road at Miami Ohio and have now surrendered 100 or more in three of their last four games. Their defense is giving up 98.1 points per game, one of the worst marks in the nation. Arkansas Pine Bluff visits Illinois Chicago on Wednesday, then DePaul later in the week, followed by a trip to Tulsa on December 10. Their best chances for wins arrive December 15 and 17 against non Division I opponents.
364. Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils (1-7)
The Delta Devils fall from 362 to 364 after their sixth straight defeat. Their most recent loss came when Texas A&M hung 120 points on them. Mississippi Valley State allows 91.3 points per game and scores just 71.3. They stay on the road this week with games at UL Monroe and Kansas State. They return home December 16 to host Tarleton State.
363. Chicago State Cougars (0-8)
Chicago State cannot shake its struggles and drops from 360 to 363. A 23 point loss at Youngstown State pushed them further down the list. The Cougars are averaging only 65.8 points per game, one of the lowest offensive outputs in the country. They host fellow bottom tier program South Carolina State on Monday in a matchup both teams desperately need.
362. Gardner Webb Bulldogs (0-9)
The Bulldogs slip from 358 to 362 after a ninth consecutive loss, this one a 24 point defeat at UNC Wilmington. They are being outscored by an average of 90.4 to 66. Gardner Webb visits Queens on Wednesday before returning home to host Georgia Southern.
361. South Carolina State Bulldogs (0-8)
South Carolina State falls from 357 to 361. They have given up 98 points at Missouri and 101 at Winthrop, continuing their defensive struggles. The Bulldogs are 0-7 away from home but will have a competitive chance Monday at Chicago State. They do not return home until December 16 when they host SC Upstate. Before that, they travel to Bethune-Cookman, Charleston Southern and Queens.
360. St. Francis Red Flash (1-6)
The Red Flash finally picked up a win, although it was not against a Division I opponent. Even so, they rise from 364 to 360. They travel to Xavier on Monday, then play Radford, Temple and Florida before hosting Robert Morris prior to Christmas. St. Francis is one of three NEC teams with only one victory this season.
359. Coppin State Eagles (2-8)
Coppin State jumps from 363 to 359 after a three point road win at Rider. It was their second victory in their last three games. They lost Sunday at Loyola Maryland and now head into a difficult stretch with road games at West Virginia, Liberty and Saint Joseph.
358. Alcorn State Braves (1-8)
The Braves move from 361 to 358 after earning their first win of the season, an 81 to 74 victory over Indiana State. They followed that up with a blowout loss at Louisiana Tech. Their schedule continues to be brutal with upcoming games at Iowa State, Baylor and Ole Miss.
357. Florida A&M Rattlers (0-4)
Florida A &M has not played since a 30-point loss at Georgia. They return to action Tuesday with a road game at Jacksonville. After that, they face two non Division I opponents with opportunities to pick up their first win. Tyler Shirley leads the offense with 11 points per game.
356. Morgan State Bears (1-6)
Morgan State enters the bottom 10 after five straight losses, including a six point home loss to Drexel. Their only win came against Central Penn. Alfred Worrell Jr. is scoring 14.6 points per game while the team averages 73.9. Opponents are averaging just under 82 against them. The Bears face Longwood next.
Dropped out:
Jackson State Bulldogs moved out of the bottom 10 after a 51 to 45 win over Louisiana, highlighted by strong defensive play.
We hope you enjoyed this week’s bottom 10 rankings. These are always changing and several teams are waiting to climb out of the list.
