Syracuse Basketball: 3 keys to victory against the Georgetown Hoyas
Continue to build with Donnie Freeman off the bench
Freshman Donnie Freeman had arguably the best game of his young Syracuse career in their most recent victory over Albany (NY) this past Tuesday. Freeman poured in a career-high 24 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 shooting from deep along with eight rebounds, an assist and a block to pace the offensive attack.
The most notable thing about Freeman's career-high performance was that it came in 23 minutes off the bench. Freeman's production has been strong so far for the Orange as he ranks second among freshmen in the ACC currently in scoring (14.0 points per game) and rebounds (8.7 rebounds per game) and shooting 50.5 percent from the field.
Coach Autry seems to have found a role for Freeman in the offense as the team scored 102 points, their second-highest total of the season. Freeman contributed with 24 of their 45 bench points to propel them to victory. It helps given the Orange rank sixth currently in the ACC in bench points per game at 25.3 per contest.
It will be interesting to see if Freeman grows into a role as a reserve from now on. It's seemingly worked so far, as the Orange are 1-0 with him off the bench.
