The Virginia Tech Hokies have been a team that's finished above .500 for the past four seasons under head coach Mike Young. Coach Young has two NCAA Tournament appearances under his belt as well with the Hokies. This season could be one to forget as the Hokies begin a roster rebuild for 2024-25.
The Hokies return just four players from last year's 19-14 squad, led by Mylyjeal Poteat. Poteat is the only returner with a ton of experience for Coach Young's system as they'll add four names out of the transfer portal and three freshmen in their 2024 recruiting class.
Hysier Miller (Temple) is no longer with the program due to a gambling inquiry surrounding Temple's basketball program from last season. It leaves the Hokies sparse at the point guard position with the season opener a few weeks around the corner.
It marks the second year in a row the Hokies have been dealt a huge blow to their roster. Last season, Rodney Rice announced his departure from the program for the transfer portal just weeks before the season. It left a noticeable hole in last year's perimeter-oriented attack, and Miller's departure should have had a similar effect. Take a look at the season preview for the Virginia Tech Hokies.
