Virginia Tech Basketball: 2024-25 season preview for the Hokies
Overall outlook and expectations for the Hokies
The Virginia Tech Hokies weren't expected to be a Top 10 team in the ACC but recent news of Hysier Miller's departure certainly put this roster in dire straights heading into another season. The Hokies lost a ton of production from last year, returning not one starter from last year's team which finished eighth in ACC play.
Last year's breakout star, Sean Pedulla is with Ole Miss in the SEC. Tyler Nickel and MJ Collins both joined Vanderbilt this past offseason, a team they'll see in the ACC/SEC Challenge in December. The Hokies will see Lynn Kidd twice this season when they face the Miami Hurricanes.
The transfer portal has been a tough pill for the Hokies to swallow over the past few offseasons. It's hard to predict more than a bottom-half performance for the Hokies with so many question marks on this current roster.
There's no such thing as an easy conference game for a squad that went 10-10 in 2023-24. It's hard to project 10 ACC wins in this year's climate, especially with the additions made by the likes of Louisville and Wake Forest in the transfer portal.
The Hokies could string together a few wins in conference play but, they'll need an all-around team effort free of mistakes and errors, or it could be a long year for head coach Mike Young and company.
