For years, Wisconsin has built winning teams through development, culture, and finding players who fit the program's identity. Now, the Badgers have landed a prospect who brings all of that while also carrying the kind of recruiting profile fans rarely see stay home.

Four-star shooting guard Jalen Brown announced his commitment to Wisconsin, giving Greg Gard and his staff one of their most significant recruiting victories in recent memory.

Who are the Badgers getting?

Brown, a 6-foot-4 standout from Wauwatosa West, chose the Badgers over an impressive list of offers that included Iowa, Indiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, Georgetown, West Virginia, Mississippi State, and Arizona State. Ranked No. 66 nationally in the Rivals Industry Ranking, Brown becomes Wisconsin's highest-ranked commitment since Sam Dekker joined the program in 2012.

That fact alone highlights just how important this commitment is. Wisconsin has traditionally succeeded without consistently landing highly-ranked national recruits. Brown represents a different level of recruiting win, especially because the Badgers kept one of the state's top talents from leaving for a major program elsewhere.

His production backs up the hype.

Coming into the season

Last season, Brown averaged 20.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 2.9 steals per game while shooting 46 percent from the field and better than 37 percent from three-point range. Those numbers showcase a player capable of impacting games in multiple ways rather than simply scoring.

Brown described himself as an aggressive guard, a three-level scorer, and a defender who won't back down from any challenge. Wisconsin fans should love hearing that.

Home state kid

Perhaps the most telling part of his commitment announcement was his explanation for choosing the Badgers. Brown said he always dreamed of playing in front of his home state and felt welcomed by the coaching staff from the beginning.

Wisconsin didn't just land a talented recruit.

The Badgers landed a player who genuinely wanted to represent the program, the university, and the state. Those commitments often end up meaning the most, and Brown has the talent to become a cornerstone piece for Wisconsin's future.
