According to a post on cbssports.com by Gary Parrish, the University of Kentucky is expecting to have Humphries enroll at the school and he intends to reclassify so he can be eligible to take the court for the Wildcats this year.
Humphries is ranked as the 43rd for the Class of 2016 according to 247 Sports composite rankings.
In the FIBA under-17 World Championships last year, Humphries played strong averaging 18.9 points and 11.6 rebounds.
With Humphries’ intentions to make himself available to John Calipari this year, the recruiting haul for the Wildcats’ 2015 class is going to be tremendous.
Kentucky already has commitments from 7-footer Skal Labissiere, who is already projected to be the No.2 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft according to nbadraft.net, and 6-foot-4 point guard Jamal Murray who is projected to be the 10th pick, giving the Wildcats’ one of the top ranked recruiting class to according 247 Sports.
John Calipari’s squad is taking on quite the international flavor going into this season.
Commits Jamal Murray and Mychal Mulder are coming to Lexington via Canada, Skal Labissiere is a Hatian product, and Kentucky also has a 2016 pledge from New Zealand’s Tai Wynyard.
Alex Forkner’s piece on rivals.com had a great quote from John Calipari pertaining to how these recruits seem to want to embrace the challenge of being a player for the Kentucky Wildcats regardless of where they are coming from.
"“You’re recruiting guys who don’t want to run from this; this is what they want, and whether they’re from Lexington, Ky., or from Toronto, Canada, or from Australia, New Zealand, who wants this? Because guys that play here will tell you: You gotta want this. You can’t run from it. You gotta run at it. And those are the guys that come here and have success, so it’s not been by design but, again, the guys we have, I don’t care where they’re from; they’re pretty good players.”"
Kentucky is turning out players to the NBA in droves when you look at what the program has done over the last few seasons, and that is a huge attraction for these young recruits who have aspirations of playing in the league after their college careers are done.
In this past 2015 NBA Draft, Kentucky had six players drafted in the two rounds and four of those players were taken as lottery picks.
Isaac Humphries going to Kentucky would give John Calipari easily the top recruiting class and a solid frontline rotation going into 2015-16.
