Usually this event is played from November to December, but this year it is going to be on one sole day featuring all 10 of the Big 12’s college hoop squads against 10 of the 12 SEC teams in the conference.
The event will start at noon with two games tipping off when Bob Huggins takes his West Virginia Mountaineers to Gainesville, FL to take on the Florida Gators led by their new head coach Michael White.
That game will be running simultaneously with coach Kevin Stallings and his Vanderbilt Commodores traveling to Austin, TX to deal with Shaka Smart’s Texas Longhorns.
A total of 14 teams that are in the 2016 Big 12/SEC challenge earned postseason bids last season.
Other games of interest include the Georgia Bulldogs taking their veteran back court of Charles Mann and Kenny Gaines into Waco, Texas to face Rico Gathers, Taurean Prince, and the Baylor Bears.
Lon Kruger’s Oklahoma Sooners are going to have a pretty tough road test on their hands when they travel to Baton Rouge to Ben Simmons, Tim Quarterman and LSU Tigers.

It has been well-documented how well LSU head coach Johnny Jones recruited in 2015 bringing the No. 3 class nationally.
It will be interesting to see what they do against a veteran Oklahoma Sooners’ team.
The marquee matchup for the Big12/SEC Challenge has to be at Allen Fieldhouse when John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats go to face Bill Self’s Kansas Jayhawks.
The four SEC teams that will not be participating in the Big 12/SEC Challenge will face each other in scheduled SEC play matchups with Avery Johnson leading his Alabama Crimson Tide into going on the road to play against Frank Martin’s South Carolina Gamecocks and Ben Howland taking his Mississippi State Bulldogs to face the Missouri Tigers.
