UConn hoped to use last year’s AAC tournament victory as motivation to pull off the upset against the Bearcats. Of course, last year’s game didn’t feature either Kyle Washington or Jarron Cumberland.

And on this Saturday, both players took control.

Washington, in particular, stepped up big for the Bearcats, scoring a season-high 27 points on 11-of-18 shooting, including 3-of-5 from three-point range. Meanwhile, Cumberland contributed another solid effort off the bench for the Bearcats, scoring 15 points.

The Huskies got 20 points and six rebounds out of guard Rodney Purvis. Meanwhile, Amida Brimah scored 16 points, while Christian Vital scored 13 off the bench.

Cincinnati’s win streak gets longer and longer, especially when it comes to playing at home. The Bearcats are 14-0 at home this season. In fact, Cincinnati now has 22 straight home victories The last loss for the Bearcats at home came Dec. 29, 2015 against Temple.

More importantly, Cincinnati is well ahead of last season’s pace. Head coach Mick Cronin needs one more win to match last season’s total of 22. The Bearcats could have 29 wins going into the AAC tournament if they win out from here. It won’t be easy, however.
