Michigan State basketball has been very successful over the years under head coach Tom Izzo. What aspects of the game will be crucial to success this season?

Michigan State basketball is, year in and year out, one of the best programs in the Big Ten. Regardless of the roster turnover experienced after each season, the Spartans just seem to reload better than just about anyone. Head coach Tom Izzo is seemingly one of the best in the business and he has turned Michigan State into a bona fide college basketball powerhouse in his 23 seasons at the helm of the program.

Even though the Spartans have secured only one national championship during his tenure, 21 consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament and six other Final Four appearances more than speak for themselves. Quite simply, there are not many programs in the country that have been as successful as Michigan State over the course of this century. And, barring any significant changes, it seems likely that this dominance will continue.

As we look ahead to this upcoming season, Michigan State is once again projected to be one of the top contenders for the Big Ten title. Even though the Spartans bid farewell to Miles Bridges and Jaren Jackson Jr. (among others) this offseason, the program is returning several key players from last season while also bringing in an excellent recruiting class full of players who can contribute right away.

Considering this, it is reasonable to expect that the Spartans could be a preseason top-10 team in the country. Still, even with this said, the team will need to capitalize on a few keys to success in order to reach this maximum potential. Here are a few of those vital aspects of the game for the Spartans.
