Four-star power forward Jontay Porter, the brother of the No. 1 senior Michael Porter Jr, pledged to Missouri on Monday evening.

2018 four-star power forward Jontay Porter has committed to Missouri, he announced Monday evening. Porter is ranked as the No. 27 junior in the nation, according to 247Sports.

“[Missouri is] the best place for me because of the coaching staff and all the family there to support me,” Porter told Busting Brackets.

Jontay is the brother of the No. 1 senior in the nation in Michael Porter Jr. Both were committed to Washington before the firing of head coach Lorenzo Romar. Their father, Michael Porter Sr., an assistant under Romar, left Washington this past season and later accepted a position as an assistant coach on the men’s basketball staff in March.

Porter noted that he’s best at “being a versatile defender.” He mentioned that he hopes to polish several facets of his game for a fluid transition into college. The 6’9″, 225-pound big man said he hopes to be one of the most dominant freshmen at the next level.

Porter is currently a junior but has given serious thought about possibly reclassifying to the 2017 class. “I definitely have an idea of what I want to do,” Porter told Busting Brackets. “But I still need to think about and pray on it before announcing anything.”

After a very disappointing season with an 8-24 finish, Missouri hopes for a culture change under new head coach Cuonzo Martin.  While Porter is the lone 2018 commit to Missouri, the senior class is phenomenal and will be one of the nation’s best if Porter does reclass. Alongside Michael Porter, four-star center Jeremiah Tilmon, four-star point guard Blake Harris, and three-star point guard C.J. Roberts will all join the Tigers next fall.
