Dayton Basketball was decent overall in Anthony Grant’s first season. In 2018-19, the expectations should rise a bit with experience under their belt.

The Dayton Flyers were a young team in 2017-18. They had two freshman starters in the rotation along with a sophomore, a junior and a senior. This upcoming season, they’ll return all but one starter from last year’s squad which should improve the results by the end of the season.

Head coach Anthony Grant enters his second year as the Flyers’ head coach. He went 14-17 in his first year but consider it an adjustment year. Grant went 8-10 in Atlantic 10 play but he’ll return of roster laden with three freshmen and seven sophomores. Four of those of players saw playing time as freshmen, with two of them starting a majority of their minutes.

The Dayton Flyers weren’t a bad team in 2017-18, they just couldn’t win on the road. They posted a record of 12-4 at home and 1-10 on the road last season. In neutral site games, they went 1-3.

Grant is no slouch when it comes to coaching in the college basketball ranks. He’s led two different teams to the NCAA Tournament, VCU twice and Alabama once. He turned VCU into a mid-major powerhouse, leading them to 76-25 (.752) record in three seasons. While at Alabama, he led the team to their first tournament appearance since 2006. Now, after a three-year coaching stint in the NBA, he’s prime to lead another mid-major to prominence. Here’s a look at the 2018-19 season preview for the Dayton Flyers.
