Butler basketball moved to 2-0 in Big East play with a home victory over the Creighton Bluejays. What did we learn from the Dawgs’ performance?

It’s hard to imagine that any team in the country has been as successful as Butler basketball so far this season. Through the opening two months of the season, the Dawgs have performed at an exceptionally high level in just about every single game while launching out to a superb record and landing a Top 15 ranking in the national polls. While there have been several doubters along the way, Butler has answered just about everything thrown at it this season.

That was once again the case in Butler’s most recent game. Despite the fact that Creighton came into Hinkle Fieldhouse fresh off of a 17-point win over Marquette, Butler did not back down from the challenge and came out of the locker ready to defend its home-court. The Dawgs, as they have done on several occasions throughout this season, jumped out to an early-double-digit lead and were able to hang on for the majority of the game.

Creighton made several runs, especially in the second half, but Butler led for 35:42 of the contest. That is not something to simply overlook. The Dawgs responded to just about every comeback effort by the Bluejays and consistently put their foot down with superb defensive play and a second-half explosion from their star player. By the time the final buzzer sounded on the game, Butler walked away with a 71-57 victory.

This result will go down as yet another very strong win for Butler’s resume as the team is continuing to prove that it belongs among the nation’s elite. Let’s dive a bit deeper into the victory to analyze some of my key takeaways for the Dawgs.
