The nation’s leading rebounder is in the NCAA Basketball transfer portal. Which teams are in the running to land forward Kevin Marfo?

There were few NCAA Basketball players who had as big a breakout campaign as Quinnipiac’s Kevin Marfo. In the season prior after transferring from George Washington, Marfo averaged 5.4 ppg and 7.5 rpg in less than 20 mpg. But the 6’8 forward broke out this season, putting up 10.2 ppg and 13.3 rpg, good for first overall in the country.

The numbers on the boards were rediculous for the Quinnipiac frontcourt star, reaching double figures in all but one game this season. Marfo was dominant on both the offensive and defensive ends of the glass, getting 15+ rebounds eight different times this season. That includes a career-high 21 in a win over Monmouth.

The competition for Marfo will be getting harder next season, now that he’s in the portal as a graduate transfer. Numerous high-profile programs have sought his services but the forward has recently narrowed it down to a group of five:

Which of the five programs is the best fit for the graduate transfer? Here’s a closer look at Marfo at each of his possible new homes.

Minnesota Gophers

The Gophers are hoping to find another elite rebounder, with star center Daniel Oturu leaving early for the NBA Draft. And with Alihan Demir also graduating, the team will lose over 80% of their rebounding production.

Marfo, along with the return of forward Eric Curry from injury would give Minnesota a solid enough frontcourt to compete in the Big Ten next season, although it’ll be on point guard Marcus Carr to help carry the team to the NCAA Tournament. Head coach Richard Pitino could be on the hot seat and has a huge hole at the center position. Landing Marfo is a must for the team.
