Boise State Basketball returns arguably the best player in the Mountain West or the upcoming season in Derrick Alston Jr. Can he lead the Broncos to a league title?

The COVID 19 Pandemic hit the Mountain West conference hard last season, not in the way of positive cases, but with the lost NCAA tournament. The league was guaranteed to get two teams in the NCAA tournament with Utah State and San Diego State. The San Diego State team was one of the best teams in the entire country the entire season, the Aztecs were a team that had a great chance to win a title last year before the season ended.

Heading into the current season San Diego State is still going to be good, but a new contender emerges within the conference. The Boise State Broncos have been one of the better teams in the conference under head coach Leon Rice.

Two seasons ago they struggled and last year they showed that the previous season was just a fluke. The Broncos have a team with NCAA tournament aspirations and looking at what they have returning in Boise that looks like a very real possibility.

Boise State has a lot returning but none may be more important to their success than Derrick Alston Jr. The senior guard tested the NBA waters and with the season he had last season many in Boise believed he was gone. Coach Rice received the best news when it was announced Alston would be coming back to play his final year in Boise.

The Broncos already were one of the best teams in the league but adding a player the caliber of Alston is going to make any team in the country better instantly.
