In 2012, Leonard Hamilton had his Seminoles peaking at the end of the season.  After spending most of the year outside the Top 25, FSU entered the ACC Tournament in Atlanta ranked 17th in the country.  They entered the weekend as the 3rd seed behind 4th-ranked UNC and 6th-ranked Duke.

A team without any known stars played a one and manage to upset Duke in the semi-finals and then close out a loaded UNC team in the finals to claim their first ACC Tournament Title in basketball.  The school brought into the ACC to prop up its football credentials had now climbed to the top of the league in basketball.
