 #10: Scott Drew guides Baylor

Mandatory Credit: Dan Friend-USA TODAY Sports Baylor defeats West Virginia 88 to 75

How about the roller coaster ride it has been for Scott Drew and his Baylor Bears this year. Basketball has always been a game of runs and streaks, but I’m not sure there has been many like this year’s Baylor team. They started off by winning 12 of 13, with the lone loss being Syracuse in Maui. Then the Bears took a nose dive losing eight of their first ten conference games. At this point their overall record was fourteen wins to nine losses and people were beginning to call for Scott Drew’s head.

He simply responded by spurring on  his team to finish the season by winning seven out of their last eight contests. I guess it’s not about how you get there; it’s where you end up. This year’s Baylor team was the epitome of that by finishing 21 and 10 with a secure NCAA at-large bid on the way. The Bears are someone no one wants to play in March, even though they had a very forgettable January.
