Oklahoma Sooners guard Isaiah Cousins hit by bullet
By Joe Nardone
According to Will David of The Journal News, Oklahoma Sooners guard, Isaiah Cousins, was hit by a stray bullet on Tuesday night. The bullet hitting Cousins was apparently due to two rival gang factions having a dispute in Cousins’ hometown of Mount Vernon, New York.
Also in David’s report:
"Cousins was with a group near 7 West Third Street – Levister Towers – that had nothing to do with the gang warfare, police said. The Goonies and Gunnas (the two warring gangs) were about a half block to a block away – around Third Street and Third Avenue – when one [member] fired a shot, striking the athlete."
Isaiah Cousins was taken to a hospital immediately after the result and is expected to be relatively okay.
Oklahoma Sooners head basketball coach Lon Kruger released the following statement yesterday:
Cousins averaged of 11.0 points, 4.2 boards and 2.1 assists per game last season as a sophomore. Here is to hoping that one of the Big 12’s most improved players from last year has a quick, speedy and correct recovery.
