Mar 21, 2014; San Antonio, TX, USA; Providence Friars head coach Ed Cooley looks on in the first half of a men
I love Ed Cooley. I love him even more as a coach going forward now that he has lost all that weight. That’s not to say that chubby coaches are unable to be successful, but I mean as far as Cooley’s long-term health is concerned. Keeping him in the right shape to keep up with the daily grind of being a college basketball coach was going to be vital to his career. With that no longer being an issue Cooley is emerging as one of the best coaches in the entire nation.
Also, a dirty little secret, Cooley is only 44. It feels like he has been around forever, though, doesn’t it? Well, that is because he has been a head coach since 2006 (Fairfield).
Cooley recruits incredibly well and has the ego-less ability to let the talent on his roster dictate the offensive system, not the other way around. That is the sort of thing that will only endear him to top-tier recruits even more.
